Your TRAVEL KUZ tour will begin at the Hope Cemetery. Located on a small hillside in Barre, VT, the "Granite Capital of the World", the Hope Cemetery stands as a magnificent tribute to the stone cutters and artisans peacefully interred amongst their very own creations. Entering the front gate, you will pass by two granite sentries, forever watchful over their abode. From the moment you arrive you’ll notice this is no typical resting place for loved ones gone by. It is truly a gallery of splendid artwork in the most unusual of settings.
Lunch will be at the Hilltop Restaurant. It will be a traditional Barre dinner family style...chicken w/pasta, salad, rolls, butter, cookies, brownies, and a beverage.
Then on to Rock of Ages a Quarry Tour and Sandblast Activity. A narrated shuttle tour will take you to the world's largest deep-hole, dimension granite quarry nearly 600 feet deep! Peer into its depths; observe the quarriers as they cut blocks from the sheer face and see the mightly steel derricks that tower above the surface. They are capable of lifting up to 250 tons. Once you've seen it, you'll want to TRY it. Their new Cut-In-Stone Center offers you the chance to learn to sandblast. Grab the gun, squeeze the trigger and feel the pulsating throb of the up to 110 psi of abrasive and air leap from the nozzel as you learn to cut the stone.
This trip will be completed with a stop at Simply Delicious (Old Depot Train Station) located at Depot Square. Set back off Main Street...taste, shop and sample some great Vermont Products.
At 5:15 PM we will be depart for home but first we will stop at Quechee Gorge.
